It's eaten by wolves. By wops. Wolves. Wolves. Hello and welcome to a Talk Lit Get Hit bonus chapter. The little book chats in between the big ones. We'll talk about reading, authors, and have discussions with people who, like us, can't shut up about books. We might get sidetracked and talk about literally anything else. But this is a bonus chapter we wrote just for you. I set out with malice in my heart, looking for the perfect book to teach Bridget a lesson for liking Jacob Black. I don't like Jacob Black. You were a Jacob Black apologist once when you cried and when he got sad when he got his wedding invite. I was. It was about Edward. Edward was just so nice. Details, details. Who needs them? Yeah, okay, fair enough. And you know, there was also a more sort of benevolent part of me that was looking for a book that would really fill the bride by Allie Hazelwood shaped hole in your chest. So I did think that I wanted something paranormal, something sort of in the vein of Twilight. And I came across the perfect choice. I unfortunately have no live recordings of me discovering this. I have like three or four voice messages where I've been like, I'm freaking out, guys. I'm freaking out. It's 24 hours later. I haven't made a choice. What do I choose? They're all completely unusable.

The book I chose was Hungry for Her Wolves by Tara West. Book one in a reverse harem paranormal romance. Just reading that now. Take it away. In the background as well for some reason. Is this set in like Iceland? Who knows? There's like weird light coming from the ground. this. Okay, so as we just heard, the book that I read was Hungry for Her Wolves by Tara West. I have a little bit of information about Tara West. She has quite a lot of books. She has 10 series listed on Goodreads, and all of them have at least two or three. Some of them have more. This series in particular has 12 books. Yeah, that's what sold me. So Tara West is a USA Today best-selling fantasy romance author, Mom, wife. She's a former high school English teacher, but she is now a full-time writer. She enjoys spending time with her family in the Texas Hill country, saving abandoned rabbits, advocating for thyroid patience, interacting with her fans, and falling off her jet ski. That is a real mixed bag. Yeah. Yeah. I was trying to have a look at her online presence, and all I could really see was she likes to make reels and TikToks of her promoting her books, and she has like a single lacy fingerless glove, and she's like caressing her books. And it's like some text on the screen. Like it's just like what she does. It's like, if you like reading books about shifters, why choose you're like this? And it's like stroking the book. So that's that was my first impression of Tara West. This book was published in 2018, and the copyright page of the book made reference to being published by Shifting Sands Publisher, but I couldn't find anything about that online. So I don't know if that's a real one or if it's her own sort of little thing that she's made up. You can download this book for free on Apple Books. It's also on Kindle Unlimited. Amara couldn't deny her attraction to the wolf shifter named Luke. But she wasn't about to give up her career to bond with him and his three brothers, no matter how hot and bothered he made her. When his brothers arrived, tall, tanned, and virile, she could no longer deny her savage hunger. But how could she satisfy her desire and still maintain her independence with four overbearing wolves around? If she touches an animal, she knows what's wrong with it. She leaves that vet 20 seconds after he arrives. She's like, okay, let's go. She's like, but my job's so important. I only diagnose dogs, but I can do all animals, but the whole book I only do dogs. She's gone. And she's like, take me. Okay, Dr.

The 12-Book Title Madness

Doolittle. So anyway, the next note I have is about it being part of a series, and I have sort of already spoiled that before, but boy is it ever part of a series. There are 12 books. Each title is more deranged than the previous one. Each one follows the same recipe in regards to the title. So they are all three or four words long, and they all end with either for her wolves, by her wolves, or simply something. Her wolves. I wanted to see how many you could guess. I don't know if you've seen them or like if they've stuck in your brain, but I have them listed here, and I want to know if you can guess. Well, one word for her wolves. I did look at them. They were outrageous. I'm not feeling confident. Okay. Do we have bitten by her wolves? No. Well. I would say these titles are more like feeling words than like doing words. Some of them are doing, but most of them are feeling. Okay. Pining for her wolves? No, but like so close. Yearning for her wolves. No. Again, so close. Hoping for her wolves. No. Craving for her wolves. No, you're like you're this close. Pining, yearning. Lusting for her wolves. So close. Thirsting for her wolves. Longing for her wolves. Yes, long. That's number two. The rest of them I might just go through because that was really hard. Yeah. And they're so boring. So we have Hungry for Her Wolves, Longing for Her Wolves, Desperate for Her Wolves. Wolves is really hard to say. Tempted by her wolves, fighting for her wolves, fated for her wolves, defending her wolves, saving her wolves. And then we have a bit of a switch up. Hungry for her demon wolves. Captured by her demon wolves. Hunted by her demon wolves. Protected by her wolves. The cover for Protected by Her Wolves was really good, right? Now I don't know if these are all about the same person. I don't care to know. But crazy. Now I'm going to take you through how I felt

after reading the book, or like during the book. So I was a bit scared before I started reading because I remember when we finished Credence and we were like, I thought this would be like a reverse harem situation. And I was really worried about whatever we had put into the universe that like led me to this book. When I finished it, I think it was actually worse than I thought it was going to be. Oh. And wow. Yeah. A lot of the time when I was reading, what was going through my mind was, how could someone write that down and think, yep, publish. Because honestly, most of the books we've read still have managed to be pretty vanilla. It's always like a hetero couple having very normal sex. No one, I don't think anyone's ever put it in the butt. Well, speaking of the butt, there's four of them, right? So there's four brothers and there's one girl. And they're brothers.

They're brothers. I mean, it's cultural, guys. That's what they say. It's cultural. You've been living with the humans you don't know. So there's four brothers and there's this girl, and it sort of hit me halfway through. Like, I know she's a virgin. We'll talk more about that later. But they're also virgins because they've been waiting for her. They've been on heat for like four years. And she's just been too far away for them to sniff. I hate this already. And they can't consumate the marriage. They can't lose their virginity until they're married, until they've had the mating uh ritual or like something. And but before that, she has to go find her long-lost family in Romania. Oh, of course. Of course. To bond with them. Because if she doesn't get to bond with the females and males in her family, she will come to resent them later. Question mark. So to get around this, because they literally can't be together without them like drawing because they're all in heat. It's like a like a magnet. And people literally are there to keep them apart. It's disgusting. So they sneak out one night and they're like, Oh, baby girl, you're so hot. I just can't help it. I've got this tent in my pants. And so what they decide to do is an anal gangbang.

They're all virgins. And this is what they decide to do. It's absolutely awful. Anyway, I've gotten ahead of myself. I don't know people that would like these books. And I don't know if people would be telling me that they did if they did, if that makes sense. Obviously, there are many people, many, many, many people whose like these books are their brand of heroine. Shifter, why choose, wolf reverse harem romance books. But I honestly can't even begin to understand what they're getting out of this, other than like scratching some sort of desire or like fetish within them. And if that is the case, I have to say that they would be sexually drained. Because I don't think there would have been more than like a five-sentence gap between something explicit happening or being thought or being said in this book. It was absolutely relentless. I'm a husk of the woman I once was. I have read about heat and moisture pooling and tingling and legs open more than any one person should ever have to do in like a three-hour period. It was insane. It was insane. This is exactly what I wanted. There is nothing more I love than an episode where you absolutely pop off. Yes. So the main character, the aforementioned her, ladies and gentlemen, her, is this girl in her very early 20s. Amara. It was painful being in her head. She was absolutely pathetic. I have an interaction between her and the third brother Luke, who is the tracker that sends her from over 400 miles away and then turns up in the vet clinic that she works in to take her back to the reservation. She's telling him like about her backstory that her mother had a one-night stand with someone in Eastern Europe and turned to drugs as a result of the trauma she faced during the conception because these big hairy monsters came in and attacked her lover as they were getting it on. And then she was nearly raped by her stepfather. Like, this is a crazy book. And then she was in the foster care system for a few years, and she's catching Luke up on her life up until this point. And like this interaction is like a vignette of what pretty much the whole 290 whatever pages is like. I'm going to rely on your acting chops to bring this next little bit to life. I'm going to send it to you now. It sounds like a more intense version of what you were describing in the Apple book that I discussed. Because, like, why do we need that? Why do we need on top of like all of this explicit sex, which is what people who are picking up this book are picking it up for? Why do we need the traumatic backstory? I don't know. No one cares. And like there was probably four or five different mentions or like occurrences of her nearly being raped in this book. Why do we need this? I don't understand. Anyway, I'm gonna send you the thing and I would like you to read all of it, please. Okay. A visible knot worked down his throat as he swallowed. The females in my tribe are cherished and protected. If we'd known about you then, we would have taken care of you.

Pack Rules, Brothers, And Red Flags

Cherished and protected? How badly she wanted to believe him. He seemed sincere, and her instinct wasn't raising any alarms. But she'd been fooled before. She wasn't about to be fooled again. She crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes. Why did you come here? I knew you were mine, he said, with such cutting finality she knew it to be true. Fuck! She wasn't prepared for that. I don't belong to any man or wolf. He leaned into her, overpowering her with his heat and sending her libido into a tailspin by gently squeezing her knees. So hot. You do now. She released a shuddering breath, struggling to keep her lust under control as that throbbing between her legs returned with a vengeance. She needed to get away from this man, this wolf. This is five minutes after they've met. Exhausting. The whole book is like this. Oh, from a knee squeeze. Lady, calm down. The rest of the characters are almost too ridiculous to even mention, but I'll quickly run through the brothers. The alpha is called Hakon, Hakon, dunno, H-A-K-O-N, and he is meant to be quite sensitive based on what I'm not sure. The second alpha is called Drasco, and he is constantly flying off the handle, and Amara constantly tells us how much she hates him, but how much she wants to just grab him by the neck and just kiss him until whatever. They both work in the oil fields. Sick. The third brother, Luke, we've already met, and he's a tracker. He's the beta. And he's just been fighting in Afghanistan. And the last brother is called Roan. And get this, his job is basically a homemaker. He has to cook and keep her sexually satisfied and help her to look after their children while the others are at work. Good for you. Yeah. Good for you. Good for you until you read this next bit. I'm just gonna send you another little uh thing. This is from the point of view of uh one of the brothers, I think describing who Roan is as a person. He's about one year older than Amara. When Roan wasn't cooking up something in the kitchen, he was dreaming of their mate, fantasizing about her hair and eyes, and especially her tits. The poor pup was so horny. They went through several jars of lube a week at their house and a shitload of socks and washcloths. Oh, because they are single use, as we discovered in the icebreaker episode. Socks are single use. Ooh, okay. So I have a question for you. Do you know much about like traditional pack dynamics? Only what I learned in Bride. Same. Okay, good, because I'm the same thing. I've got no idea. So I have some crazy things that I found out about pack dynamics to share with the class. Okay. Um, this is in Tara West's world. It might be different in other people's worlds. Don't know, don't care to know. Yeah, being honest. I'm gonna get you to read some more. So this is the first thing that happens when Mara's like sort of learning that she's actually gonna be borderline abducted by these people and dragged back to their reservation. Um, she doesn't get a choice in the matter. And basically she's like, yippee. So this is her discovering that. I've just sent you a section between Mara and Luke where she's sort of unraveling what like the expectations upon her as their mate. So whose girlfriend am I supposed to be? Yours or theirs? Yes. He answered evenly, a muscle twitching in his jaw. She blinked hard, looking at him as if he'd grown a second head. Yes, what? We made as a pack, one female and three to four brothers, depending on the size of the pack. That's how it's done in our species, he said matter-of-factly, as if sharing a girl with his brothers was the most natural thing in the world. One she wolf bears a daughter and three to four sons. So she is this like, granted, she does have a little bit of resistance. She's like, I'm not your baby making machine. But then she's like, Okay, let's go. As you would expect in a book of this sort of sort, there are some very, I would say, outdated views of women. Um surprise. Not surprising at all. Something really crazy that happens is that they actually have to drive back to the reservation in two separate cars because they have to keep her separate from the other brothers. And so we get this little gift of a scene between the brothers. They're just sharing about how horny they are over her um when they're driving like four hours back to their place. I'll just send you something else to read. So this is between the brothers. This is really making me think like how lucky we were that Caleb was mute. And there's only two of them. I'll kill any humans who touched her. Drasko seethed. Bro, Hakon spoke through gritted teeth. You need to control your temper. Don't tell me to control my temper. Drasko clenched his hair by the roots, looking ready to rip it out of his head. This is fucked up. The tension in the cab was getting so thick, Hakon could feel the weight of it pressing down in his chest. Relax, bros, Luke chuckled. I smelled her virginity. Oh disgraceful. Also, not only can he smell her virginity, and not only can he smell that she's in heat, their fathers are also there, they can also smell it. And then her grandparents arrive from Romania, they can smell it. And then she goes to Romania back with her grandparents, everyone there can smell it. Oh. It's astonishing that it's talked about so widely. Yeah. It's not just the men who have bad attitudes towards women,

Chosen One Plot And Romania Detour

as you might expect. The main character in this book, Amara, she is also not going to be winning any awards for Feminist of the Year anytime soon. So they go to a diner on the way back to the reservation, and she is getting quite jealous of the way the waitress is sort of hitting on the brothers. And so um she comes over to bring the check, and Amara goes, You might want to pull up your tart before your tits fall out. Yes, woman of the year. The waitress straightened, giving Amara a look. She matched the waitress's glare with one of her own, inwardly cheering when the redhead quickly looked away. Amara triumphantly smiled. That's right, bitch. So cool. There's also this crazy storyline where Amara is like the chosen one in their world, like their sort of religion, the goddess and the god they were involved in her conception, and she's named after them. And like she's the chosen one, basically, and that's why she can diagnose what's wrong with the animals. She can't heal them. That's why she can do so many sequels. Yeah. And then she also has an evil stepmother, because of course she does. In Romania? Yes. Okay. In Romania. She's quite mean, and then the goddess arrives at some point in the middle of a town hall meeting, and for some reason decides to turn on the stepmother, and she's like, Do you think we gift such a selfish bitch? One of our precious daughters. And then the lady like runs off and like tries to mate with this rival tribe who is trying to steal everyone else's mate. Unsure why. How is it that they're paired together? Is it sort of like imprinting? Yeah. It's one person for everyone, or every three to four males. Sorry. Yeah. So when you have your daughter, you she's the just the breeding machine eventually. This book was so much like credence. I was thinking about how there were so many long passages about how much he loved each of. Them after knowing them for like a day or less than a day. This book had these passengers like by the bag full. This next quote is from when they are driving back to the reservation. So they would have met about an hour ago and they've been traveling in separate vehicles, as I mentioned before. But the wolves' fathers are also there. They don't trust them to not have sex. How old are the brothers meant to be? Um, I would say the oldest one is like nearing 30. Oh. The youngest one is about a year older than her. Okay. She's talking to, I think, the eldest brother. I think she's talking to the Alpha at this point. I will just send it to you now. There was so much she wanted to tell him, like how brave and amazing he was for saving that human's life. She loved his kindness and how she longed to run her fingers through his thick, dark, wavy hair. Mostly she wanted to tell him how she admired his quiet and comforting dominance. No wonder he was a protector. She certainly felt safe when she was near him, like he could protect her from her past demons and future ones too. How easy it would be to fall in love with this incredible man. Still at a loss for words, she told him of her feelings the only way she knew how by wrapping her arms around his strong neck and giving him a soft kiss on his full lips. Yeah, this is an hour into uh into the road trip. Well, I think like generally you are familiar with people's quiet, comforting dominance by that point in their relationship. I have another example of this. It's probably like uh maybe four hours later. I think at this point they've actually arrived back at the reservation and they go down to this lake. And actually, it sounds like a vibe, like, don't get me wrong. Sounds like a beautiful cabin overlooking some kind of lake. And she sees this like sort of thing in the distance, and they come closer, and it's some men on a canoe with a little boy, and then over on the other side of the lake, she can see a woman with a baby and like some other young children, and she waves at these people and she's like, Oh, this is love, like such a family place. Later it's revealed that was um the goddess showing her her future. Okay. And so she's like, Wow, I am fully ready to become a baby making machine. Put one in me now. And so this is either the first night they've met or like the end of the second day, one of the brothers, don't know which one, uh, said this to her. I'll just send it to you now. His eyes were as hard as steel. All I want is to protect and love our mate and daughter, and to raise brave and kind sons. She clutched her throat, feeling as if the air had been stolen from her lungs. Holy heck. Was this guy for real? If so, she would be a fool to want her old life back. I do agree that she would be a fool because she was working in this vet clinic, and the vet was like hitting it on her at every point. And for some reason, she was living in like the stable, and he wasn't paying her. He would let her live in the stable. She can diagnose any animal, but she can't get a job where they pay her money. Where is this set? Alaska, I think. Maybe they have jobs there, they have jobs there. So she's living in the stable, but she does say there was one good thing about living in the stables, is that she learnt how it okay she learnt how a sick horse's shit smells. Oh, thank god. Someone finally knows he needs that though, because she could touch it and know what's wrong with it. He's sick. You don't need to catch a whiff. He's got a splinter in his hoof. Hey guys, welcome back. It's Nate the Hoof guy. We're here with this girl who can smell this shit and tell me what's wrong. Yeah. No, she can't even say what's wrong. She can just say if it's sick or not. Which I'm pretty sure you can tell with your eyes in a lot of cases. When she first got to the reservation, there was a dog, like someone else's dog, because she's got all these dogs as well. And she cries when she has to leave the vet's dog. She's like sobbing.

We're not stealing the dog. Anyway, she gets to the reservation and someone there has a dog, and the dog comes in like sort of limping. And she was like, Oh my god, puppy, what's wrong? And the girl's like, No, don't, like, never mind him. He he like fakes it for attention. And she's like, actually, no, he has a splinter in his um, I don't know what they called, foot, right vestibule. Yeah. And so then they take the dog to the vet, which is like two hours away, and she's right. That's

Predictability Quiz And Final Verdict

so useless that she never trained to do anything about it. Something that you and I have often said to each other, off and on mic, is that we could have written this. To test this theory, I have written a little quiz for you to test your romance author instincts and see how predictable or unpredictable Hungry for her wolves truly is. Okay. First question. It's a multiple choice question. Shortly after the brothers sniff out Amara, they head back to their reservation. On the way, and after eating some lunch at a diner, they are forced to pull over their car. Is the reason for this A? They have to meet with their assigned government agents to make sure Amara hasn't blabbed about her being a shifter. B, a light plane has crashed just off the road and they have to rescue the pilot. Or C, Ron was too horny to ride with Amara and his father's had to kick him out and put him in the other car. Honestly, they all sound probable. But I think C is probably the most likely. C did happen, but not at this point. Okay. It was actually B. A light plane crashed just off the road, and they have to rescue the pilot. That was my next guess. What is some next most stupid and random thing that could happen? I don't know why this happened. Side note, A also did happen. There are also assigned government agents just that happened in a different type. I was thinking it's like men in black type stuff, so surely not, but wow. Yeah. There's a lot of things happening in this book. I don't know if the plane crashing will later become relevant. I sh only can assume yes. Otherwise, why would you have that in the book? I wouldn't think about it too much. Number two. Amara has to go bond with her long-lost family in Romania. The brothers give her a piece of clothing she simply has to wear on the plane the next day. So there's like they give her some gifts, and this one thing is the thing that keeps getting mentioned alongside like a new camera, because her camera broke. Her dream job is a pet photographer. Of course. What do you think it is? I'll give you a hint. This piece wouldn't have been out of place in uh whatever her name was in Credence's wardrobe. Well, actually, before you even gave that hint, my mind was going to like, um, she's always wearing like oversized flannelets, like sniffing their shirts and putting them on. I was also thinking like pink camo. Is it like a fringed denim shirt? No. But I think you're kind of in the right track. It's something you'd wear on your legs. Oh my god. Is it a gun holster? No.

To give up. Yeah. Jeans with rhinestones on the pocket. Okay, okay. She's gotta wear them to real mania. That'll really get her off on the right side. Yeah, I think the rhinestones on the pocket there bad enough. But also what makes it even worse is the fact that the night before that was when they had their anal gangbang. They'd bought her like some like lingerie and stuff as well, and they dressed her in it and then were like, you're too sexy, and then undressed her and like had sex again. Um but she's still a virgin, because virginity is only vaginal. It doesn't count. That's true. That's what I've always said. This is when she's getting ready for the plane ride. She stumbled out of bed and took a hot shower, then put on her old clothes, including the bra with a safety pin. She had the new clothes she'd worn last night, but they smelled strongly of her mates. true. It's quite hard for someone that hasn't read the book. I'm nearly done talking about this book, and if I get started reading out Heinous Quotes, we will be here until Monday morning. But I have a few left just to play us out. The first one is one I didn't highlight, but when I was looking at the book on Amazon, I noticed that it was the most highlighted quote.
